History and Goals
Continuing the Polish tradition
Our history
The Polish Cultural Society of Indiana grew out of the interest and enthusiasm shown at the 1976 International Festival in Indianapolis. It was incorporated in February 1977 as the Polish Cultural Society of Indiana, Inc.
Ever since, members — Polish-born, Polish-American and friends of Poland — have kept the calendar of Polish life going in central Indiana: Wigilia with opłatek, pisanki and Święconka at Easter, 3 Maja and 11 Listopada, Andrzejki in November and picnics in late summer.
Our goals
- Build members’ deep awareness and broad understanding of the contributions Poles and people of Polish descent have made to world culture.
- Increase Indiana residents’ appreciation of the diversity and richness of Polish culture, especially Polish achievements in the arts and sciences.
PCSI is an all-volunteer nonprofit and a member of the Nationalities Council of Indiana.
